Acne Update

The Story of my life. Acne ! Many of you already know that I’ve struggled with my skin, For about 6 years to be exact. During this summer I had the worst break out I could ever imagine. Baring in mind throughout the whole time I’ve had this problem the only place I broke out was my Forehead, Right Cheek, and occasionally my chest and back area.

Till this day I still don’t know how it got so bad because I actually decided to change my diet by becoming a pescetarian, drinking a lot more water and sticking to a strict routine. Little did I know I was in for the biggest shock of my life.

Midway through summer 2018 I started to break out Everywhere and the more I picked, I scratched and I touched, the worse it got. My skin was constantly oily and I found myself blotting at least 10 times a day. We had a pretty hot summer this year so something in my mind was telling me that could have been the reason but for it to have gotten so bad I still have to question if it was really just down to weather.

Let me tell you a bit about my skin routine

Morning

  1. Cleanse with DuDu Osun Black Soap
  2. Tone with Witch Hazel
  3. Moisturized with Aloe Vera Gel I got from Holland and Barrett (This then changed to the Aloe Vera plant once I finally found out where to buy it)
  4. Moisturized again with a Sea Weed Oil-Control cream which contained SPF 15
  5. Treat Spots with Tea Tree Oil

Night

  1. Cleanse with DuDu Osun Black Soap
  2. Tone with Which Hazel
  3. Moisturize with Aloe Vera Plant (Leave Overnight)
  4. Treat Spots with Tea Tree oil

Every Wednesday and Sunday

Morning

(Same as every morning)

Night

  1. Cleanse with DuDu Osun Black Soap
  2. Steam (for about 10 minutes but this would only be if I could be bothered)
  3. Exfoliate with St.Ives Apricot scrub
  4. Apply clay masque (Whichever one I could find at the time)                                             -Or make a Honey and brown sugar masque that I would leave on for about 15-20 minutes
  5. Tone with Witch Hazel
  6. Moisturize with Aloe Vera Plant
  7. Treat Spots with Tea Tree Oil

Now to me this didn’t feel like a bad routine simply because I was pretty much consistent and would only do the harsh bits like exfoliate twice a week and use my Spin for prefect skin Brush. of course during this time I would pick and squeeze but I made sure I was doing it the safe way (so I thought)

I would switch and change a few products whenever I felt they didn’t really have an affect on my skin for example I started to do Turmeric masks to even out my skin tone. I used lemon and honey at one point which made my skin very irritated and I came up with a huge rash.

I even thought that I was using too many different products so I switched to using the full Tea Tree range from Body Shop, didn’t really seem to make much difference but it felt better to use products with basically had the same ingredients.

Prescription

I’ve been put on many prescriptions to help my Acne and sadly none of them worked apart from one which was the Combined Contraception Pill. Unfortunately I had to stop taking them because they were giving me other complications.

I also had 2 types of acne tablets, one was called Lymecycline which almost a miracle when I first started using it until I guess my skin got used to it. I used a a gel called Duac which didn’t seem to do much and a few other products which were little to no help.

Today – Tuesday 23rd October 2018
So here we are 6 years later, and almost 2 months since my breakout nightmare. My skin has cleared up a lot and I have changed my skin care routine. About 85% of my spots have reduced all I need to do now is even out my skin tone and start fading all the pigmentation, picking and popping have left behind.

Just so this post isn’t too long I will update you on my current skin regimen in a separate post. Thanks for reading guys !
